Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden: Review

✩✩✩✩1/2 4.5 out of 5 This is a book I seriously cannot stop raving about. The only reason it hasn’t got a 5 is because I haven’t done enough research yet to determine its accuracy. But it changed me as a reader and I don’t think I’ll ever not think it’s phenomenal so I thought now was probably the time to give it some kudos. So if you have no idea what this one’s about (or just want to remind yourself) here’s the Amazon.ca  description: In this literary tour de force, novelist Arthur Golden enters a remote and shimmeringly exotic world. Illuminae by Kaufman & Kristoff: Review

✩✩✩✩  4 out of 5 First off, I don’t like giving five stars. Five stars implies perfection when perfection itself is subjective – I think star rating systems are fine depending on how they’re used; for the most part I grade based on level of enjoyment and man, did I seriously enjoy this book. As usual, the blurb for your convenience (am I not merciful?): This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded. To contextualise, for those of you who haven’t heard of it here’s the Amazon.ca blurb: In Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life–and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow…

Hello, hello, hello! A very happy new year to all of you! 2016 was a memorable one for many of us; for me it was a year of change and I hope to continue that trend this year by trying new things and reaching far beyond the confines of my comfort zone. It’s a very broad resolution to be sure but I’m hoping that will work in my favour. As some of you will know, and many may not, I moved over to Canada from the UK on boxing day and plan to spend most of my 2017 discovering all that this fabulous country has to offer. It was a huge step for me on both…
